Ballet of timeless classics

BALLET Cymru thrilled an audience of all ages when it entertained at the South Holland Centre, Spalding last week writes LIZ MCMURRAY.

Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs was an excellent introduction to ballet for my 5 year old daughter, who now keeps leaping and twirling around the living room.

The lovely interpretation and expressive music of the two timeless stories was spot on and the dancing narrator, Sam Bishop added the finishing touches.

The whole performance was exquisite with superb lighting, animated costumes and breathtaking choreography performed by the cast of 10.

My daughters favourite bit was when Little Red Riding Hood “whipped a pistol from her knickers”, she wasn’t so keen on the shooting of the wolf however after reassurance he wasn’t really dead, a gasp did appear when Little Red Riding Hood appeared a few moments later with a new wolf skin coat.

This occured again after the third Little Pig telephoned Little Red Riding Hood for assistance, having heard how she had dealt with the wolf in her story.

Resulting in another new wolf skin coat and unfortunately for the Little Pig, a new pigskin travelling case for Little Red Riding Hood.

An excellent performance and I for one will be looking out for their next visit to the South Holland Centre.
