SPALDING-based Bakkavor Foods must pay more than £12,000 after one of its workers suffered a “lifelong injury” when her arm got caught in a machine.

The woman dislocated her elbow and broke three bones in her arm while using a potato blanching machine.

In a court hearing on Friday, Bakkavor admitted failing to ensure dangerous parts of the machine at a factory near Wigan were guarded.

The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £2,026 towards the Health and Safety Executive’s prosecution costs.
