World Prematurity Day 2019: A Donington family share their story as their premature baby nears his third birthday

To look at little Carter Beasley today he seems just like any other happy toddler. But just over two-and-a-half years ago, he was fighting for his life.

Carter was born prematurely at 26 weeks (normal pregnancy duration being between 37-42 weeks).

Weighing less than a bag of sugar at birth, he was unable to breathe on his own and had to be put on a ventilator immediately - before his mum Lucy and dad Dan, both from Donington, were able to cuddle him.
