Have your say

On June 22 the chairman and myself, vice-chairman of South Holland District Council, together with other district councillors and our veterans, attended the district council offices in Priory Road, Spalding, where the chairman raised the flag to launch the start of Armed Forces Week.

The ceremony took place at 10am and the chairman, after raising the flag, spoke a few words to celebrate both past and present members of our armed forces.

On June 23, the chairman and myself were asked by Dennis Hannant, town centre manager, to lead the military parade in Spalding town centre to celebrate Armed Forces Week. The chairman was only too pleased to say yes.

The parade formed at 10.30am and was organised by the Royal Lincolnshire Regimental Association. Ensigns were proudly displayed and we marched off to the sounds of the pipes from Hall Place to Market Place for a short service of thanksgiving.

May I take this opportunity to thank everyone concerned in making this event a very dignified occasion.

I also would like to give a special thanks to all the public who lined the streets, listened to the service and remembered all our brave servicemen from days gone by and all those servicemen and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect the freedoms we are able to enjoy. Thank you all.
