Whaplode Playing Field Association raised £520 when 55 guests enjoyed a fabulous Indian meal at Spalding’s Indus restaurant.

Association secretary Margaret Lewis said the restaurant cooked a special meal and guests paid a little extra on the ticket price as well as digging deep to support the raffle.

Mrs Lewis said the money raised will go towards replacing some of the seats in the playing field.

She said: “There are some benches there but they are beginning to look past their sell-by date.”

The £520 won’t cover the whole cost of the new seats, but the association will hold another big fundraiser – its Easter Egg Hunt on March 29.

Mrs Lewis said: “It’s all held in the church and churchyard. This will be the third one that we have done and we are getting between 80 and 100 children coming along.

“They hunt for tokens and they exchange them for magic chocolate eggs.”
