Thirteen Spalding factory workers are celebrating a £1million win on the EuroMillions draw.
The Lincolnshire Free Press met the Bakkavor employees at Ayscoughfee Hall on Thursday as Champagne flowed and members of the syndicate revealed their plans for spending the loot.
Each of them is banking a whopping £76,923 – their best ever pay day.
On Tuesday we will be revealing the heartwarming stories of five of the winners as we were the only local newspaper to speak directly to them.
Syndicate member Karen Taylor, who bought the ticket from the Co-op’s Springfields Filling Station, was the first to realise they had won – and kept ringing syndicate leader Mark Waters until he picked up the phone at 5am on Saturday.
Mark said: “When I eventually spoke to her she screamed down the phone ‘I don’t know whether it’s true but I think we’ve won the Lottery.
“She’d checked the numbers online but neither of us believed our eyes, as we thought something like this could never happen to us.
“We didn’t want to excite everyone until we’d spoken to Camelot, so we kept quite until lunchtime when we could take our break and make the call.
“It was the longest six hours of my life.”
Then he finally broke the news.
“We’ve won the Lottery, I shouted, and the room lit up,” said Mark. “You’ve never seen a group of more ecstatic people in your life, we certainly are the lucky 13.”
Fellow winners are: Debbie Fraser, Sima Penikaite, Kayleigh Davies, Steven Alexander, Catherine Jones, Keren Jackson, Sabrina Lindsay, Ginnie Brewster, Tanya Owen and Eddie Owen. One syndicate member is remaining anonymous.
