A ward councillor from Weston has vowed to be the people’s champion over proposed plans for 45 new homes in the village.

Larkfleet Homes has notified residents by letter of a public exhibition detailing the development on land off Small Drove, including “a proportion of which would be affordable”, to be held later this month.

Some will say they don’t want a development of this size in the village and others may say they would like it for their children

Residents will also be told of the £15,000 carrot for local projects they would receive from the Larkfleet Group’s Community Fund should the plans be approved, based on the number of houses being built.

Ward councillor Rodney Grocock, vice-chairman of South Holland District Council and a member of the planning committee, said it is important villagers make their views known at what is the start of the consultation period.

He said: “I have been lobbied with the same letter and will be the people’s champion when residents get in touch.

“Some will say they don’t want a development of this size in the village and others may say they would like this for their children.

“There is also the question of the affordable homes – how many will there be?

“We are now at the very early stages of the consultation process and it could be years before the development happens, should it get planning permission.

“My job now is to see exactly where the homes would be, consult with fellow ward councillors Anthony Casson and Andrew Woolf and gather local feeling.”

The public exhibition will be held at Weston Village Hall on Monday, July 20, from 3pm to 7pm.

As well as seeing plans of the two to five bedroom two-storey houses in the proposed development, residents can also find out how the community fund could benefit the village.

Mark Mann, associate planning director for Larkfleet Homes, said in the letter which went out to residents: “Larkfleet has a track record of supporting its local communities. The fund can be used for any purposes specified by a local community panel and can include a number of days of professional support to help create and write bids for specific larger scale projects.”
