UPDATE: 12 tonnes of straw damaged in trailer fire on A16 at Surfleet
UPDATE: Firefighters have confirmed that 12 tonnes of straw was damaged during a blaze on the A16 at Surfleet today (Monday).
A crew from Spalding attended the incident at 9.56am where a trailer of straw was on fire, the straw eventually ending up in a nearby field.
There was fire damage to approximately a tonne of straw and heat damage to about 11 tonnes.
The blaze was extinguished using two hose reels, two main jets and the Cobra firefighting system, which cuts through and cools materials.
There were no injuries
PREVIOUSLY (MONDAY, 1.21PM): Parts of the A16 and A17 that were earlier gridlocked after a straw trailer caught fire are now clear.
PREVIOUSLY (MONDAY, 11.03AM): The A16 at Surfleet is partially blocked and there are long queues of traffic after a vehicle fire.
A trailer with straw caught fire at around 11.07am, near Spalding Golf Club. Fire engines, police and ambulance crews are on the scene.
The road is blocked and traffic stationary on the A16 both ways from Gosberton Bank to A16/A152, north of the Surfleet roundabout.
Delays on surrounding approaches may also be affected by the A17 road closure and this being a diversion route.
There are severe increasing delays of 21 minutes on the A16 northbound between B1180 West Marsh Road and A152. Average speed there is currently 5mph.
