CHILDREN living around Monks House Lane in Spalding are about to get a brand new playground costing more than £100,000.

South Holland District Council is working with Playdale Playgrounds Ltd to build the play area at Monks House Playing Field and it is due to open in early April.

Innovative play equipment – designed for children from three to 12 years – will be installed.

The council raised £106,000 from sources including a national Playbuilder grant, section 106 monies from developers and by dipping into its own capital funding.

Additional play equipment worth £27,335 was provided through competitive tendering.

A council spokesman said the playground is used by families from across Spalding.

He added: “It is hoped that this exciting project will also provide children and their families, living locally, a renewed sense of ownership and civic pride once the refurbished play area is completed.”

District councillor and ward member Angela Newton said: “I am delighted that we have been able to refurbish this play area to such a high standard with the aid of Playbuilder grant.”
