The Lady President of the Ladies’ Section of Spalding Golf Club Jean White went above and beyond the call of duty when it came to raising money for the Lady Captain’s charity.

Jean put on the final dress in a fashion show held to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The fashion show, by Hills of Spalding, followed a two-course lunch for 90 and a talk by Macmillan volunteer Val James about their work to support both cancer sufferers and their families.

The fashion show was narrated by Christobel, buyer and head of the fashion department at Hills, who put together the outfits worn by the volunteer models.

Hills also donated several raffle prizes, raising an “outstanding” £430, and this, together with the lunch, raised in the region of £700 for the charity.

The Ladies’ Section also held a bridge drive and afternoon tea, attended by 13 tables of players.

A spokesman said it was “a very pleasant event” which raised £463.25, £186 of which came from a raffle.

A ‘yellow peril’ 13-hole competition has also been held, with 35 women competing, the raffle raising £48 for Macmillan.
