‘Read-dating’ is the speed dating equivalent for books and is to be introduced at the first Deepings Literary Festival.

On Saturday, April 29 (2-3.30pm), members of the public will have the chance to be introduced to some great reads during a free event at Deepings Community Library.

Local authors and readers will have the chance to chat for four minutes – long enough to find out about the book and whether it sounds like one that could be of interest.

A huge variety of genres will be represented, from romance to espionage, history to crime, and personal experience to lifestyle inspiration.

Local authors who have agreed to ‘read-date’ include Bourne writer Ros Rendle and Market Deeping authors Lizzie Steel, Emma Lannigan and Darren Calpin.

If festival-goers are inspired by what they hear, there will be a Walkers Books pop-up shop at Coronation Hall during the festival, selling books by the authors giving talks.

All venues will sell refreshments, and some will sell a specially produced festival beer and Grasmere Farm sausage.
