THE South Holland Centre is hosting an informal Word Slam event on Tuesday, October 11 at 6.30pm where people who are creative with words will get the opportunity to perform their work in front of an audience.
The Centre will provide the microphone and stage which is all the ‘slammers’ need to perform their poetry, rap or verse.
The Word Slam performances will be judged by a panel including Peterborough rap poet MC Mixy. The winning entry will receive £50 and the chance to perform as a curtain raiser to one of the UK’s most prolific performance poets, Luke Wright, when he visits the Centre on Thursday, October 13.
A spokesperson from the Centre said ‘We are very excited that cool rap-poet MC Mixy has agreed to help judge the performances. We are expecting a great atmosphere and good-spirited rivalry on the night between the supporters and of course the performers who will be hoping to win the £50 prize and the title of Spalding Word Slam Champion 2011’.
Entries can be on any subject as long as the ‘poetry’ is original work, and can be performed either by individual performers or as part of a group. There is no age limit for contestants in the Word Slam, although Luke Wright’s performance is recommended for people aged 15 and over.
