Five-day flower fest in 2000

A church hoped to raise £5,000 for its funds in a five-day flower festival held over the late summer bank holiday.

The festival is held annually at St Mary's Church, Whaplode, and was extra special because the church was celebrating 2000 years of Christianity.

The event concluded with a parish barbecue.

Father David Carney said: "The weekend was a great success. Not only did we have floral disaplays from our village, but other villages as well, plus Irish dancing and bingo."
