You might have thought that having a penpal in America or Australia was exotic, but youngsters at Spalding and Crowland libraries were imaginging their penfriends were aliens.

The children heard a story about someone whose penpal really was an alien - and then coloured in their own pictures of extra-terrestrial visitors and made bookmarks of them.

The activities were part of a series of space age-themed afternoons held at the two libraries during the summer holidays.
