When John Swepstone sells his Holbeach butcher’s shop a lot of customers are going to miss him.
He’s also going to be missed by hundreds of children who enjoy the football sessions he supports with a charity jar on his shop counter.
Over ten years John has raised around £1,100, to support the work of Tommy Gostic, manager of Holbeach Under 10s Yellows. Tommy also runs community indoor training at the Holbeach Hub for children aged five to 13 each Thursday as well as summer and Easter holiday activities.
John Swepstone recently presented his final check, and his daughter Anna Jackson explained it began when her two boys used to play.
She said: “Tommy gives up so much of his time and gives up some of his holiday to run courses and at the end of the week they all get a trophy. He gives them all a Christmas present too. He’s absolutely brilliant.”
Tommy said: “Mr Swepstone has supported many local children enjoy football. This kind of support is vital to keep costs down so everyone can have an opportunity to enjoy the sport.
“The boys and volunteer coaches would like to thank Mr Swepstone and his daughter from the bottom of their hearts.”
Anyone who would like to support Tommy’s work should ring him on 07769 279175.
