More news, no ads

Sometimes it's difficult to think of gifts for Mother's Day.

Kayleigh Ayre from Pearl & Ruby in Red Lion Street, Spalding, has come up with a wonderful way of giving new life to old crockery to present an afternoon tea with style. Here, she shows us how:

What could be better than making your own unique cake stands ready for those Mother's Day treats?

Assembling the stands.
Assembling the stands.

This quick and easy craft is suitable for everyone. It is a great way to re-purpose old crockery, and the finished product would even make a fantastic gift! You will need:

  • A selection of vintage plates and glasses
  • Glue suitable for glass and ceramics

Choose which plates you want to work with - usually different sizes work best. Your cake stand should tier, from the largest plate at the bottom, to the smallest at the top.

Try stacking the plates and glasses to make sure they are fairly sturdy and that you are happy with the placement.

Begin to glue each piece together. Make sure you use a strong clear glue suitable for glass and ceramics. Weigh it down and leave overnight.

Voila! You now have your own unique selection of cake stands, all that is left to do is fill them with goodies!
