Make it Yourself: How to turn an old tea cup into a beautiful candle

Kayleigh Ayre, from interior, gift and artisan store Pearl & Ruby in Red Lion Street, Spalding, shows us how to transform an old tea cup:

Vintage teacups lend themselves perfectly to candle making. They can be made as a gift, for a party, a wedding or even home d├ęcor.

To make these teacup candles you will need:

Soy wax flakes or other candle wax of your choice

Vintage cup and saucer

Candle wick

Essential oil (optional)

Saucepan and bowl/jug

- Cut your candle wick to size and secure in the bottom of the cup (we used a metal wick holder)

- Add a cup full of wax flakes to a heat proof jug and melt over a bain-marie on a medium heat. Add your choice of essential oils at this point if you wish to have a fragranced wax.

- Once melted, carefully pour the liquid wax into your teacups and use something such as a skewer across the cup to support the wick until the wax hardens.

- Allow to set overnight.
