Honours for Holbeach and Sutton Bridge soldiers in 1917

Sgt S F Hubbard (left), from Sutton Bridge, had been awarded the DCM for service on the field in 1917.

Sgt Hubbard, who was with the Machine Gun Section, had served eight years in the Army and was serving in India at the outbreak of war.

He had taken part in a number of important engagements in France and been wounded twice and had also been gassed.

Pte W N White, of Holbeach, received the Military Medal for capturing a German machine gun.
