Game review: This is one of the best

Far Cry 4
Far Cry 4
Have your say

This sequel to the exceptional Far Cry 3 builds on every aspect of the previous game – without ever reinventing the wheel.

And that’s absolutely fine and dandy, as your new hero Ajay Ghale switches the action to the differing Himalayan terrain of Kyrat – from expansive forests to snow-capped mountains – and again, it’s a joy to behold.

As you take on a narcissistic enemy (complete with a God complex), tremendous highlights include riding elephants, flying a gyrocopter, and leaving food for bait as new wildlife – that now include rhinos and black eagles – take out enemies in satisfying fashion.

The story might not be up to scratch – it’s definitely not a patch on the last game – but when you factor in co-op and multiplayer modes, this provides an all-round thrill ride that is still far and away one of the best games of the year.
