Milkman David retires after 39 years in 2000

After delivering more than nine million pints to Spalding doorsteps, David Allen thought he had milked the job for all it was worth and deserves a lie-in.

For 39 years, the popular milkman has got up at the crack of dawn six days a week to work with the same round in the Halmergate area.

But on his 60th birthday, David walked the 18 miles up and down paths for the last time in his work for Pinchbeck Dairy.

He began as a milkman in 1962 after starting as a relief driver for Corona, from their former premises in Spalding Road, Pinchbeck.
