Next Generation Gedney and an English Channel swimming challenge from ten years ago in 2011
Next Generation Gedney held a fun-packed summer fair ten years ago.
The event was held at the Albert Avenue field, which the group hoped to one day lease and run as a park.
The fair raised £90, with attractions including sumo suits, a tug of war, a cake competition and appearances by SpongeBob Squarepants and Scooby Doo.
Next Generation Gedney chairperson Zoemarie Sheldon said: “We are trying to get social cohesion back into the community.”
Choppy water and torrential rain made for an interesting swimming challenge in 2011 as Spalding residents Ray Carthy, Jason Wright and Neil Walker managed to swim the English Channel in 14 hours and 13 minutes.
They managed to raise over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process, and planned for a long break with no more Channel swimming.
