Making music in Ayscoughfee Gardens

The idea of making art attractive to newcomers caught on in Spalding as a group of novices signed up for a musical workshop with a difference.

Ayscoughfee Gardens was the setting for a Gamelan percussion workshop, part of a range of events in June promoting the £2.6 million Transported arts project.

Liz Lenten of Gosberton Risegate-based Scarlet Music, who led the workshop, said: “A Gamelan is a traditional musical ensemble from Indonesia featuring a variety of instruments such as xylophones, drums and gongs.

“No experience was necessary for the workshop and people played despite very little practice.

“We’re delighted that Transported is giving us an opportunity to share our activities with South Holland residents who wouldn’t normally get to see us.”
