Surfleet student Charlee Elson had never won a competition before in her life but a spur-of-the moment tweet after a gym session has brought rich rewards.

Charlee and her friend Charlea Uffindell-Smith (both 17) of Spalding are off to the Leeds Music Festival next month to see stars like US rapper Eminem, punk rock band Green Day and Birmingham-based band Editors.

The prize, worth more than £400, was won by fashion student Charlee after responding to a tweet from East Midlands entertainment venue Capital FM Arena Nottingham.

Charlee said: “I was at a gym in Spalding when I saw this tweet on my mobile phone that I had to reply to.

“By the time I left the gym, I got a message from Capital FM Arena Nottingham to say I’d won.

“I didn’t believe it and I said to my mum ‘I don’t know whether it’s a joke.’

“She said it was the first thing I’d ever won and it took ages to sink in.”

A spokeswoman for the arena said: “The Leeds Festival competition was part of The Big June Giveaway, all about running a competition every day throughout June.

“The competition closed at the end of the month with a headline prize, two weekend camping tickets to the Leeds Festival.”
