An expected audience of about 200 people will be waiting for Christian singer-songwriter Philippa Hanna when she arrives in Spalding tonight.
Along with her husband, drummer Joel Cana from Sheffield band The Gentlemen, Philippa will be at Spalding Baptist Church to showcase songs from her latest album, Speed of Light.
But be warned, this album keeps its word and unleashes its 11 tracks ‑ ten of them co-written by Philippa - at a brisk pace.
Recorded in Nashville, America’s ‘Music City’, what was supposed to be a country album becomes one borne out of Philippa’s experiences of touring with the likes of Little Mix, Collabro and Leona Lewis.
However, both in lyrics and musicianship, openly pop-infused tracks like Let You Lead, Perfectly, Love You and Run To You still allow Philippa to share her Christian faith with listeners.
With a singing voice reminiscent of The Bangles’ lead singer Susanna Hoffs, Speed of Light takes a sudden turn on reaching the title track as Philippa allows the Nashville air to inspire her creativity.
Particularly strong tracks are Embers (with DC Talk’s Kevin Max), Arrow and the heartfelt It Is Well.
