Flinders Founders, named after Donington-born navigator and scientist Matthew Flinders, is a youth group committed to making the village a better place.

The evidence of this can be seen in Flinders Park, Donington, where a Teen Park has been created through grants totalling about £180,000.

BMX riders, skateboarders, scooter riders and skaters have a place to go that is clean, friendly and safe.

But Flinders Founders is also responsible for a number of other events in Donington such as the annual Party in the Park in July, graffiti workshops, activity and, this weekend, an
Easter Sunday Treasure Hunt.

Alicia Inglis, the group’s chairman, said: “Flinders Founders is helping to make Donington a better place for young people so they can hang around the village
without people judging them.

“I have learned so much by being involved with Flinders Founders and I have gained a lot of confidence because everyone gets on with each other really well.”

The hard work of planning activities is done at monthly board meetings held at a timber merchants in Mill Lane, Donington.

Secretary Margaret Wright said: “Flinders Founders is unique because it’s run by young people for young people.

“We now need some new, dynamic, older members who can make a real difference in the community.”
