Whether you are new to Spalding or just looking for fun and friendship, Fulney WI (Women’s Institute) may be just the place for you. It was formed in 1936 when meetings were held in the Land Settlement Association’s wooden hut in Low Fulney.
Then it moved to other venues over the years before finally settling at the Ivo Day Centre, Albion Street, Spalding, where the club meets every first Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm.
Its 75th anniversary was celebrated in October 2011 when some of the guests were women who had been members of Fulney WI for more than 50 years.
President Ann Holness said: “Our membership has steadily grown and, as a consequence, we have been able to introduce some bolt-on activities, offering members terrific value for their annual subscription of £34.70.
“We have a slimming club for weight-conscious members and a coffee club for those who like a regular get-together over a cup of coffee and cake whilst raising money for our WI and other charitable causes.
“There is also a book club for avid readers, a craft club which has proved a roaring success and, due to begin very soon, a second regular meeting at Ivo Day Centre on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.
“It’s a fabulous time to join Fulney WI, the largest women’s organisation in the UK.”
