One of Spalding’s most popular destinations for families closed due to a lease reaching its end, owners have confirmed today.

PlayBarn, located at Springfields Outlet Shopping and Festival Gardens, closed earlier this month amid speculation that it was to move inside the site’s garden centre.

But the manager of Fun Farm Spalding, Jason Henton, confirmed that the attraction, which closed on September 7, “will not be reopening” as its lease has came to an end.

Mr Henton said: “I can confirm that the PlayBarn did close on 7th September and it will not be re-opening because the lease has come to an end.

“All full-time staff have taken up roles and been relocated to our Fun Farm Spalding site at Weston and therefore no redundancies were made.”

Visitors to drawn to PlayBarn by its Land Train giant’s castle, beanstalk slide, mini boats, sand diggers, bumper cars and “transparent viewing point”.

The site, owned by Fun Farm Ltd whose main office is in Spalding, also featured an outdoor adventure playground for children and an indoor area for toddlers and its popular Jurassic Golf course.

Mr Henton said: “Jurassic Golf, to the rear of the PlayBarn, is not affected and will continue to operate alongside the other outdoor activities such as the Springfields Land Train and Miniature Railway.

There was also a hint by Mr Henton that a new business, “possible a Garden Cafe”, could open up in the PlayBarn building where the annual Santa’s Grotto will be staged in the lead-up to Christmas.

PlayBarn was in the same network of attractions as the site in Weston and Mr Henton said: “Fun Farm Spalding has received a facelift, with new furniture and play apparatus.”
