A Spalding shop manager will have an audience of millions when she talks about the latest book releases on radio tomorrow (Friday).
Samantha Buckley, manager of Bookmark in The Crescent, will be sharing the airwaves with Downton Abbey star Allen Leech and Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman who hosts a weekly arts show on BBC Radio Two at 10pm.
The 15-minute slot is a chance for Samantha to tell listeners about some of the newest titles to hit the bookshelves and promote the shop which was named Independent Bookshop of the Year in 2001.
Samantha said: “The radio station did a summer reading promotion where it contacted a number of independent booksellers in the country to ask if they would be willing to talk about books.
“I’ve only been on three programmes so far, but they’ve now asked me to do one every month where I sit and chat about new releases, as well as my choice of reasonably recent publications.
“It’s great for us because I get to promote the bookshop on the show and promote reading as well.”
Samantha will travel to London to record the programme later today and she said Claudia had helped her overcome initial nerves about taking part in her show.
“Claudia is brilliant, very friendly and great at putting people at ease by making them feel welcome,” Samantha added.
“I was a bit nervous to start off with but now the show is a lot of fun to do and I’ve had customers who have come into Bookmark to say how much they enjoy listening to me.”
