A generation of Tennysons, Kiplings and Wordsworths may have been found at Bourne Academy after a visit from an award-winning poet.

Sussex-based Rachel Rooney, whose collection of children’s poems won the 2012 Centre for Literacy in Primary Education Award, was a guest at the academy for poetry workshop with Year 7 students.

Katie-Anais Clarkson of Spalding was chosen by Rachel as the winner of a cat picture competition and English teacher Heather Rippon said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and working together to produce poems of their own.”
