Whether your style is classic and simplistic or daringly gothic, Camden Town Market will have something to suit you.
Known for its alternative fashions, it also boasts a wide variety of handmade clothes and jewellery, rock and punk T-shirts, glamourous vintage style dresses, brilliantly Bohemiam pieces and high quality fancy dress.
If it’s vintage apparel you’re after, I would recommend you give Rokit a visit.
This well known vintage outlet is a great place to find pieces from as far back as the 40s. But Rokit’s greatest advantage is also its most obvious flaw.
Unlike most high street shops, the pieces you will find are often ‘one-offs’.
What you find in rokit one day, is not necessarily what will be there when you return at a later date, so be sure to grab what you want whilst you and that rare Twiggy-style 60s mini-dress are in the same room, because there are no guarentees that that same masterpiece will make it to the shop floor again.
On the plus side, this means you are very unlikely to see someone else wandering the streets in the same outfit!
Other similar shops include Retro World and A Dandy in Aspic. If you like the look of vintage pieces but you’d rather have a brand new item, Lily J has a great range of vintage style gowns and jackets, perfect for a glamorously demure look.
For those of you more interested in daring club wear, Cyberdog is definitely the place for you. Futuristic neon pinks, oranges and greens are everywhere you look in this new age alternative shop.
Camden Buck Street Market is currently overflowing with rock and punk t-shirts, featuring the likes of Lady Gaga, The Beatles and the late great Amy Winehouse.
This market also features handmade jewellery and bags, and great band merchandise to add a quirky finishing touch to your outfit.
The newly-refurbished Camden Lock Village is a great place to grab a new pair of sunglasses, whether John Lennon is your style icon, or Paris Hilton, and is also the place to go for tights, whatever your preferance, whether you’re after something bright, patterened or plain.
My favourite purchase from my visits this year was a unique printed handmade crop top that features a bright photograph of a fairground scene, brilliantly indie, a great staple piece.
Camden Town is situated in the north-west of London (Travelcard Zone 2) and is a short trip from the centre of London on the Underground’s Northern Line.
Camden Town Market is a great place to visit for affordable one-off pieces, and is open for business seven days a week! The perfect place to get inspired.
