Three of England’s World Cup heroes from 1966 were in Spalding to meet fans and talk about the highlight of their football careers. Gordon Banks, Martin Peters and Sir Geoff Hurst, who hit a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over West Germany at Wembley, were the stars of a Boys of 66 night at Springfields Events and Conference Centre. More than 300 people were at the event organised by John Turnell who said: “We had a good crowd on the night and they seemed to enjoy what the guys had to say. “I’ve had quite a few messages of support and there’s a good chance that we’ll run another one next year.”
