People across South Holland, the Deepings and Bourne are being invited to fly a flag and join in with the spirit of Commonwealth Day next month.
Schools, churches and businesses can all take part in Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth on Monday March 10 when a ceremony of dedication will take place at council buildings all over the UK.
South Holland District Council is having its own ceremony at the council offices in Priory Road where chairman Coun Robert Clark will read out a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation before the Commonwealth flag is raised at 10am.
Coun Clark said: “I’m delighted that South Holland District Council will be part of this inaugural, simultaneous flag-raising event to mark Commonwealth Day, officially enabling our community to appreciate the value of the Commonwealth to citizens across the world.”
A similar event is taking place at the offices of South Kesteven District Council which covers Bourne and the Deepings.
Council chairman David Nelson said: “I’m delighted that the council and myself will be part of a historic moment to truly dedicate Commonwealth Day and its promotion of co-operation and understanding between nations.”
