Organisers of a boxing dinner in Spalding picked themselves up off the floor by substituting “Simply the Best” with Saint George on Saturday night.

World title contender George Groves was the guest at Spalding and District Round Table’s fight night at Springfields Events and Conference Centre.

Groves, whose rematch with Carl Froch for two versions of the world super-middleweight title is set for May 31, was a late replacement for former world champion Chris Eubank.

About 600 people enjoyed a four-course meal and a night of amateur boxing while Groves signed autographs and posed for photographs with fans.

Organiser Matt Clark said: “It was a great night and from our point of view, it was good for us and good for George Groves as well.”
