Organisers of this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On in Spalding are working hard to make it an unforgettable day for all the family.

Street entertainers, school choirs, classic cars, market and charity stalls, brass bands and a Christmas Pet Show are all part of the line-up for Sunday 17 November when the town centre comes alive for the festive season.

Churches Together in Spalding and District (CTSD) will be involved in the event which runs from 10am till 4pm, providing a rousing finale of community carol singing, and Spalding Street Pastors will be patrolling the town centre on the day.

But the highlight of the event will be the lights switch-on itself by Santa Claus, South Holland and The Deepings MP John Hayes and Spalding Flower Queen Inca Honnor who said: “Spalding is very good at celebrating things and it will be lovely to see all the children enjoying the day.”

Rev Anthony Walker, minister of Spalding Baptist Church and chairman of CTSD, said: “All the churches in Spalding are being encouraged to send some people along to the Christmas Lights Switch-On at 4pm, with the idea of singing some carols to finish off the event.”

The event is being organised by Tulip Radio on behalf of Spalding and District Chamber of Commerce and the radio station’s business manager, Jan Whitbourn said: “There will be a variety of entertainment, performances and live broadcasts throughout the day.

“It would be good to get as many children invoved in the event as we can with the school choirs, but we also need people with classic cars to come forward and anyone with pets for the Christmas show at 11.30am on Sunday.”
