About 150 people enjoyed a night of food, music and fundraising in Spalding on Saturday to support a village primary school.

A Valentine’s Ball at South Holland Centre was organised by members of the Friends of Lutton St Nicholas School (FOLS), Nicola Stevenson, Anna and Sally Hoyles.

The ball included a three-course meal, live music from 1980s tribute band The Look and a raffle with prizes donated by several South Holland firms.

Nicola said: “Most of the guests who came were friends of people we know, but there were also a few parents whose children go to the school.

“People really enjoyed themselves and said that it was a really good night.

“We had lots of prizes donated and sponsorship from local businesses and we raised about £3,500 which is very good considering there weren’t as many people at the ball as we normally have.”

A statement about FOLS on the school’s website says: “FOLS is a group of enthusiastic parents and friends who organise fundraising and support various school events.

“Its aim is to contribute funds to enhance the educational opportunities for the pupils of the school.

“The children benefit greatly from the work of the group and FOLS has fully funded or made contributions towards projects such as playground and IT equipment, subsidies for school outings and a variety of ‘wishlist’ requirements for different curriculum areas.”
