Lutton Friendship Club members celebrate its 50th anniversary at Lutton Village Hall.

Lutton Village Hall has been paved with gold this month as members of the village’s Friendship Club celebrate its 50th anniversary.

More than 40 people aged over 60 meet every other Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm for activities from a talk on the history of Long Sutton to a visit to Burghley House, near Stamford.

Club members pay a fortnightly subscription towards each meeting and there is a fundraising fete every December at St Mary’s Church, Long Sutton.

Committee member Carol Bee said: “The club was started for the over 60s and we’ve always managed to get more members to come and join us, even though people either pass away or move away.

“A lot of people who come to the club have retired and moved up to the area from the south of England, but we also have a few members from the Lutton area as well.”

In 2011, the club was boosted after Lincolnshire Co-op gave Lutton Village Hall a grant of £500 towards essential drainage work.

Carol said: “The club has a committee of seven people who arrange for speakers to come and talk on various subjects.

“Recently, we had a speaker from an owl sanctuary and we’re having an old photograph competition where members will bring in a photograph of themselves when they were teenagers and everybody has to guess who it is.”
