This year is the 50th anniversary of Spalding and District Stamp Club which meets twice a month at Spalding Constitutional Club.
The club’s origins can be traced back to the 1964 Spalding Flower Parade when the 6th Spalding St Mary and St Nicolas Scout Group held a stamp exhibition at the Corn Exchange to raise funds for the restoration of Lincoln Cathedral.
During the exhibition, visitors were invited to join a new stamp club and its first meeting was held in October 1964.
Committee member Joyce Boyer said: “Over the years the number of members has gone up and down, but in recent years it has been about 25.
“We have had several young members but the last of these has recently moved away because of university studies, although they still visit when they are back in Spalding.
“Our members have a wide range of stamp collecting interests from concentrating on a specific country, specific year or special stamp issue to more general collections, including some or all of the British Commonwealth countries.
“Many members have more than one interest which is why our In House meetings always result in a varied display.”
The club meets on the first Wednesday and third Tuesday of each month at 2pm and 7.30pm respectively.
