What started out as a chance meeting at a relative’s house has turned into a 60-year love affair for a Market Deeping couple.

Les (82) and Audrey Cook (76), of Wellington Way, have spent their lives together in Germany and Yemen, as well as the UK, yet they are still very much in love.

The couple first met at the home of Audrey’s mother in Long Sutton and after regular trips to the cinema there together, Les and Audrey eventually tied the knot on February 20 1954.

They have lived in Market Deeping for 31 years and Audrey said the secret to their long and happy marriage is “a bit of hard work, give and take and just going with the flow of it all.”

The couple plan to celebrate their anniversary on Thursday by having lunch with one of their five children, but they can also expect congratulations from their nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Photo: SG100214-140NG.
