People in South Holland are being asked to turn their lights off for an hour next month to mark the outbreak of World War I.

South Holland District Council leaders want people to light a candle in their homes from 10pm until 11pm on August 4, 100 years to the day that Britain declared war on Germany.

Deputy council leader Nick Worth said: “This will be a special moment for the people of South Holland.”
