Hairdressers in Spalding are on alert for two men who were thrown out of a salon after they were seen “acting suspiciously”.
Staff at Hedonism The Salon in Broad Street are backing police calls for vigilance after two men came into the salon where one of them asked about hair styles, while the other man looked around.
The incident happened at about 3pm last Wednesday and police describe the men as Asian, aged in their late 20s to early 30s and relatively short, with one of the men wearing a leather jacket.
Salon owner Paul Shorrock said: “We were working away in the salon which was filled with clients.
“Then two men came in and one of them asked for a full hair bleach which we thought was a bit strange because his hair was as black as anything.
“While he was chatting to the receptionist, the other guy was looking around as if he was checking things out.
“I was watching him while he was looking down the salon until he spotted a mobile phone near our reception which I thought he was looking to grab.
“We chucked him out and the other man said he wasn’t with him.
“They weren’t looking for a confrontation but as soon as they knew they were busted, they went out of the salon.”
Police are also looking into reports that two men went another hair salon in Spalding between 1.30pm and 4pm last Thursday when one of the men again made an appointment to have his hair coloured.
It is unknown at this stage whether the two incidents are linked but hair salons are being asked to look out for the two men in case they visit Spalding again.
Paul said: “They knew what they were doing and they weren’t messing about, so it was intimidating for the person on our reception.
“Luckily, we saw what was going on and after hearing that another salon in town had been done, it’s good to put what happened at our salon out there so that other businesses are aware of what’s been going on.
“We’ve heard that it’s happening all over the place where a gang of people are driving from town to town to do these sorts of things.
“A lot of our clients work in the town and we seem to be hearing it more and more from them about these cases.
“It’s happening all over the place but it shouldn’t be happening and we’ve had the police in since Wednesday to talk to us about it.
“I’m just worried about whether this is something we’re going to be facing more and more of now.”
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “It was reported to us at about 3.20pm last Wednesday that two Asian males, aged in their lates 20s to early 30s,S came into the Hedonism hairdressers where they acted a bit strangely.
“They were both relatively short and one of the men was wearing a leather jacket.
“Staff at the hairdressers were very vigilant and sensible in case there was some potential or intention for one of the men to distract somebody, while the other was considering whether to steal something.”
