Holbeach is to have its own flower festival next year for the first time since 2008.

Talks between church leaders, community groups and business people in the town have led to plans being started for a community flower festival to be held in May 2014.

Holbeach Past and Present has been chosen as the event’s theme and schools, businesses, charities and artists will be invited to take part in one of the largest community events ever organised in the town.

Rev Rosamund Seal, vicar of Holbeach, said: “People I’ve met in the street were asking me what I thought of starting up a flower festival again and in response to this, I organised a meeting at All Saints’ Church where about 30 people came.

“It was a really positive meeting and the result of it that a community flower festival will happen in Holbeach next year.

“There seems to be a will for it to happen based on the amount of enthusiasm, sense of excitement and the discovery that there’s a huge raft of people who want to build Holbeach up again.”

Stephen Johnson, who is on the festival’s working party, said: “We’ve got some great ideas and we’re working with people who were involved with previous flower festivals to put them altogether.”
