South Holland District Council came close to delaying a decision on the Lincs Gateway Business Park plans.

A debate on the development lasted almost two hours and at one stage, planning committee chairman Coun Roger Gambba-Jones came close to proposing for the vote to be put back because of confusion over the plans.

Coun Gambba-Jones said: “I genuinely don’t know what members will have determined if they make a decision and I’m sorely tempted to propose a deferment so that the (planning) reports can be put back (to the committee) with a clarification of the issues.”

Coun Christine Lawton said: “I’m quite confused about this application which is a mish-mash of things.”

Another committee member, Coun Brian Alcock, said: “I think it’s a clever use of the (planning) legislation, but it makes it extremely difficult for a planning committee to make decisions like this.”

But it was the council’s planning manager Paul Jackson who helped the council to vote on the scheme when he said: “We’re comfortanble that (planning conditions can offset the concerns.”
