Three Holbeach businesswomen with about 40 years’ experience between them are helping prospective
newly-weds to make their big day a cost-effective one.
Cake maker Ruth White, photographer Catherine Carter and Caroline Summerfield, owner of the Flower Basket in Fleet Street, have put together an “affordable, stunning wedding package” worth £1,000.
It includes a three-tier wedding cake, four hours of photography producing 40 wedding day prints and buttonholes, corsages and flowers for the wedding.
Ruth, owner of Gorgeous Cakes of Holbeach, said: “As businesses we realise that with the economic climate as it is, money is tight.
“We just wanted to create a standard package which people can add to if they want more.
“But in no way, shape or form is the quality compromised and even with the extras, we’ll endeavour to keep prices down.”
Figures from wedding industry website Hitched W.I.F.E. (Wedding Industry Facts and Economics) showed that in 2013, the average UK wedding cost almost £15,500 and more than £12,383 was spent on the wedding day itself.
Hitched W.i.F.E. also estimated the UK wedding industry to be worth £10 billion a year, almost £1,500 of that relating to photography, flowers and cakes.
Catherine said: “We’ve had quite a lot of enquiries and already we’ve had our first online booking.
“But we feel that if we can get people into the Flower Basket and show them what they get for their £1,000, it will be brilliant.”
With that in mind, the wedding package will be officially launched at the Flower Basket this Saturday between 11am and 3pm when couples-to-be can meet Ruth, Catherine and Caroline to discuss their plans for the big day.
Caroline said: “Weddings are a core part of my business and for us to be able to offer an affordable, stunning wedding package is great.
“We firmly believe that once word gets out about the package, people will see it as a damn good package.”
