Crowland youngster Aaron Garside (12) has taken a major step towards a successful singing career after being invited to join an acclaimed national choir.
Aaron, a Year 8 student at The Deepings School, Deeping St James, has won a place with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain alongside 750 other singers aged between nine and 24 from across the UK.
The invitation came after a successful audition last November and Aaron said: “I’m really happy about it and my parents are really proud of me.
“The audition was in a small room and there were two judges who I had to sing two songs to, one where I was accompanied by a piano and one where I wasn’t.
“There was quite a bit of pressure on me and it was kind of scary because if the judges don’t like you, you won’t get on the choir.”
Aaron has been singing for the past four years and is a member of Peterborough Youth Choir conducted by Will Prideaux.
“It’s really great to be able to provide opportunities at this level for young people to develop their skills to the highest possible level, not only musically but also in terms of commitment, focus, teamwork and self-discipline,” Will said.
“We’ve found that the real key to inspiring young people is to challenge and develop them to fulfil their capabilities and at Peterborough Youth Choir, we strongly believe that young people deserve professional tuition and high-level performance experience.
“We are delighted to see how this then develops their outlook and aspirations.”
