This year is the 50th Spalding Flower Parade and to mark the occasion a special book has been published.
Spalding Flower Parade – The Golden Years offers an insight into the origins and history of this annual event.
The book, brought to you by the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian, charts the event's humble beginnings from the 1950s when South Holland's Tulip Time festivities revolved around tours of the tulip fields to the present day carnival, which sees thousands of people, young and old, taking to the streets.
Spalding Flower Parade – The Golden Years is by Doug Braybrooks, who was involved with the parade for more than 30 years.
Doug worked with his father Horace before taking over his farming, bulb and flower growing business.
The book features many photographs from the parade's rich and colourful history, some of which have never before been published.
Spalding Flower Parade – The Golden Years is the perfect way to mark this glorious event's golden jubilee.
The book is available, priced at £12.99, from our offices in Priory House, The Crescent, Spalding.
Spalding in the Fifties, written by reporter Kate Chapman, is also available to buy at £12.99 or £10 when bought at the same time as Spalding Flower Parade - The Golden Years.
