Bourne Town Harrier Claire Steels won the second race of the Frostbite League series in Peterborough.

Steels, second behind second behind Ramsey’s Lisa Marriott on the same course last year, gained revenge when beating her by 55 seconds over a fast five-mile course which she completed in 30:54.

Steels finished 56th overall out of 505 with Jonathan Palmer the first Bourne athlete in 20th position (28:39).

Spalding’s Lloyd Kempson recorded a personal best of 26:31 to finish third, just 24 hours after running the lead-off leg for Nene Valley Harriers in the National Cross-Country Relays at Mansfield.

Kempson was the fastest of the Nene Valley quartet, completing the 5k course in 17:00 to hand over in 69th position.

Three local athletes helped Nene Valley’s under-17 men finish 30th – Bradley Spurdens clocking 9:58, Oliver Bowling 10:17 and Alex Hampson 10:03.
