Spalding RFC 25 Market Rasen 10: TOWN returned to action with a rousing NLD Senior Cup success on Wednesday night.
After over six weeks without a game, Harry Sharman’s side saw off one of their oldest foes to keep themselves on course for silverware.
The game was played at Boston RFC, but Spalding are back at the Memorial Field on Saturday when they face Bedford Athletic (2.15pm).
More than 30 rugby-starved players turned up for training on Tuesday night – the most Spalding have had since pre-season.
And Sharman is hoping that his charges hit the ground running on their return to Midlands One East action this weekend.
The Spalding skipper said: “It’s almost been like another pre-season, we rarely go this long without playing.
“Everybody is eager to get back on the field and to get back winning.
“The signs were encouraging at training, everybody looked really sharp and we had a great turnout.”
Town beat visitors Bedford 31-22 back in September – a result Sharman savours as their best of the season to date.
Athletic were two divisions higher than Spalding last season – so a double would mark real progress.
Prop Peter Shakespeare is still absent for Town, while Lawrence Rayner may again be available.
