Spalding Rugby Club hope to bounce back from last week’s 62-0 defeat at Market Rasen and Louth with a stronger performance at home to Newark on Saturday.

Spalding fielded four teenage debutants last week due to injuries but should be able to field a more experienced side at Newark, although skipper Harry Sharman is delaying his return from injury for a further week.

The influential skipper has been out for seven weeks with a broken nose and has been warned it could break again if he returns too soon, but he can’t wait to get back and help his side move off the bottom of Midlands One East.

He said: “I desperately want to get back to help the side out. We were badly beaten last week but there were some good performances and Tom Duerden was superb.”

Alex Ioannou is unavailble while Sion Williams and Ben Williams are still on the injury list along with Sharman.

Ben Hoyles could return against a side sitting just two places above Spalding.
