Spalding Rugby Club have reluctantly accepted Harry Sharman’s resignation as skipper.

Sharman, who played a huge role last season when the club won promotion to Midlands One East, will remain a player and will be replaced as skipper by Ryan Chappell with Sam Cooke becoming vice-captain.

Sharman picked up an injury in pre-season and has missed the entire campaign, but he is expected to return in around four weeks.

Club spokesman Kevin Wand said: “Harry has a record of success which is unrivalled in the history of Spalding Rugby Club and he will leave an enviable legacy.”
