GRACE Mullins produced a superb run at the 2012 English Schools Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in Somerset.

The University Academy Holbeach ace was the first of Lincolnshire’s representatives to finish the senior girls’ championship race over 4250 metres at the MOD airfield RNAS Merryfield.

Mullins ran well over the predominantly flat course and crossed the finish line in a fine 25th position, leading the rest of the Lincs runners into a solid 16th team position.

In the senior boys’ championships, Lloyd Kempson, of South Holland Post 16 Centre, was fifth counter for Lincolnshire and claimed 217th place at the end of the 7050m race.

• EVERGREEN Long Sutton athlete Gaye Clarke won four medals at the 2012 British Indoor Athletics Championships at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

Competing in the womens’ 60 category, Clarke won the 60m hurdles event in 10.21secs and finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.39m.

She went on to secure a further two bronze awards by finishing third in the 60m sprint in a time of 9.10secs and the long jump with a leap of 4.27m.

• A YOUNG Nene Valley Harriers squad gave a good account of themselves in a match against the Air Training Corp (ATC) national squad at RAF Cranwell.

With all athletes taking on the same 5km cross country course, there were good wins for Alex Hampson in the under-15 boys’ category and Grace Mullins in the under-20 ladies’ match.

Hampson’s time of 16.53mins was the fastest Nene Valley run of the day.

Callum Reid and Phil Wilson also ran well after stepping up from the under-17 boys to the under-20 men’s age group in order to make up the teams.

Due to the lack of support from other clubs and the county it was a tough ask for NVH to break the ATC, as with three scorers from four athletes, scores would always be low. The under-20 ladies and under-15 girls went close.

Results: U/15 girls – Katie Hutchinson (ATC) 2nd (20.23); Georgie Gibbs 3rd (20.45); Amy Gibbons 4th (21.14); Holly Wise 6th (21.30); Eliesha Reid 8th (9th) (22.04). U/20 ladies – Grace Mullins 1st (17.51); Emma Randall 4th (20.12); Charlotte Harris 7th (18th) (25.26). U/15 boys – Alex Hampson 1st (16.53); Dan Stephenson 6th (18.24). U/17 boys – Ross Huskisson 5th (7th) (18.23); Ben Hampson 6th (8th) (18.24); Dan Martin 7th (9th) (18.46). U/20 men – David Bush 5th (6th) (18.30); Phil Wilson 6th (9th) (18.45); Callum Reid 7th (10th) (18.50).
